An Open Letter from the CEO

Following a cease and desist letter from REColorado, the commission amounts associated with Denver area homes for sale have been removed from search.trelora.com.

We have been exposing commission amounts to help buyers and sellers understand and control every financial aspect of their purchase or sale. Unfortunately, there are many in our industry who want to protect agents’ exclusive access to this important information.

When the process is more transparent and American homeowners are finally allowed to see and negotiate their own agents’ commissions openly, they will regain control of billions of dollars in home equity every year.

Until this happens, here are a few simple ways to take control of the process and protect your home equity:

For Buyers

Don’t sign a contract with an agent committing to pay a fee that you don’t control.
Remember that when a house is sold and the seller pays all commissions, they pay those fees with your money.
Negotiate your agent's fee to increase your bidding power and your buying power.
Remember that all financial aspects of a sale are negotiable, including commissions.

For Sellers

Ask your agent to price his or her services independently of your home’s value.
Tell your agent what to offer the buyer’s agent. If you offer less than is “standard”, be prepared to receive offers negotiating for a higher commission.

Remember that all financial aspects of a sale are negotiable, including commissions.
No great change throughout history has ever come without struggle, but we will continue to push for consumer empowerment and transparency in all aspects of the real estate transaction.
