TRELORA is on a mission to change the way Denver does real estate, but we're not stopping there: we're elevating the future of the entire real estate industry. Buying or selling a home shouldn't come with a hefty commission attached; we offer excellent service and the best technology for one flat fee of $2500 for buyers or sellers - not an inflated commission.
We recognize that change can be hard - even when it's the right thing to do.
Especially when an entire industry is impacted. We feel a sense of solidarity with stories like this one. The New York State Senate just passed a bill imposing restrictions and serious fines on homeowners advertising short term rentals for entire homes (these can be apartments, condos or single family homes) on Airbnb. Hotel industry lobbyists swooped in cut a last minute deal with the NY State Senate that effectively cut middle class homeowners off at the knees in favor of the hospitality industry's bottom line. New penalties for renting your personal real estate in New York state are no joke: according to the article, fines of up to $1000 may be imposed for a first violation, $7500 for a third violation. The bill remains up in the air until signed into law by NY governor Andrew Cuomo.
All of this feels very familiar to the team here at TRELORA. We offer full service real estate transactions for one flat fee - just a fraction of the commission associated with a traditional real estate transaction. The industry is fighting tooth and nail to cling to commission rates of 5.6% (or more) - despite technology that has streamlined our efforts and made our jobs easier.
According to this April 2015 Huffington Post article, the National Association of Realtors spent $7.7 million dollars to influence federal policy in just the first quarter of 2015. NAR spent $1 million more than the American Medical Association during that time. Kinda makes you think, doesn't it? A significant portion of the dues Realtors pay to NAR (42%) go toward political lobbying efforts, most of which are set forth to directly serve the industry and its affiliates, not the consumer.
Whether or not you take an active interest in politics or the bought-and-paid for movement behind the scenes that affects the financial well-being of people like you every day, you have a choice when it comes to buying and selling real estate. You can settle for over-the-top pricing, or you protect the equity you've worked hard to build in your home with commission free real estate services from TRELORA. The industry will keep fighting, but so will we.
